Churchill County High School girls’ varsity basketball team secured the state championship title Saturday, capping off a dominant postseason run with a 58-38 victory over Fernley in the 3A Northern Girls Basketball Playoffs in Fallon, Nevada.
The Lady Greenwave advanced to the finals after defeating South Tahoe 68-14 in a neutral playoff matchup on Friday. Churchill County controlled the game from the opening tip, building an early lead and never looking back.
Fernley entered Saturday’s contest hoping to upset the favorites but struggled to keep pace as Churchill County’s offense and defense proved too much. The win clinched the Lady Greenwave’s state championship, highlighting their impressive performance throughout the tournament.
Churchill County’s playoff run featured standout contributions from the entire roster, with decisive victories guiding them to the title. The team now celebrates a season of excellence, finishing atop the 3A Northern division.
