The Churchill County Greenwave High School Wrestling Team traveled to Las Vegas for a weekend meet at Shadow Ridge High School, facing off against some of the region’s toughest competition from Friday, December 12, to Saturday, December 13, 2025.
Churchill County opened the tournament on Friday with a challenging match against host Shadow Ridge. Despite several wins in the upper weights, the Greenwave fell 51-23 as Shadow Ridge dominated with multiple pins to secure a decisive team victory.
The Greenwave rebounded in Round 2 with a commanding 74-0 sweep over the All-Star Combo, controlling the dual with a blend of forfeits, technical falls, and quick pins. The victory showcased Churchill County’s conditioning and depth, with aggressive efforts across the entire lineup.
After receiving a bye in Round 3, Churchill County faced Alta in a nail-biting Round 4. The dual was decided by a single point, with Alta edging Churchill County 42-41. Falls proved critical, as most matches ended in pins. Forfeits at 106, 126, and 215 pounds played a pivotal role in the final score, and Alta’s roster depth in the middle and upper weights helped secure their narrow win.
Churchill County closed out Friday’s competition with a decisive 53-24 victory over Coronado, keeping its momentum heading into Saturday’s main bracket.
On Saturday, the Greenwave battled Desert Ridge High School in the first round of the championship bracket, falling 47-28 in a hard-fought match.
Throughout the tournament, Churchill County’s wrestlers demonstrated grit, technical skill, and competitive spirit, with several individual standouts and memorable team performances. The weekend provided valuable experience ahead of the remainder of the season, as the Greenwave continue to build on their strengths and aim for success in future meets.
