Obituary - Danny Lee Urquhart

Obituary - Danny Lee Urquhart

Danny Lee Urquhart, of Fallon, Nevada, sadly passed away on Aug. 29, 2025, at the age of 77.

Born in Salinas, California, to Oswald Junior and Helen Urquhart, he grew up moving often and following seasons of produce as part of a migrant worker family. He graduated from Arcata High School in 1965 and attended Chico State College, graduating in 1971 with a bachelor’s degree in animal science.

Danny moved to Fallon with his sweetheart in 1973 to open and manage the livestock supply store, Walco. He and Ginger were married in Fallon and purchased a piece of land to create their own little ranch. With the help and support of friends, he built the house where he would raise his family and spend the rest of his life. Dan decided to leave retail and became a part of Operating Engineers Local #3, spending most of his time working for Frehner and Granite construction companies. For more than 20 years he worked as a mechanic on road construction equipment, following in his father and uncle’s footsteps.

Dan’s true love and passion was always flying his Bonanzas. Upon retirement from construction, he established Silver Sage Aviation and flew as a charter pilot for many years.

When not in the air, you could find him in his hangar working on his classic cars and hot rods—specifically ’57 Bel Airs and ’67 Chevelles—or getting ready for the next hunting season.

Danny rode horses, managed rental houses, ranched and farmed his piece of paradise, built houses and barns, traded stocks, served as the state distributor for Ritchie automatic waterers, hunted big game, and was always planning his next adventure.

He first and foremost valued family and education, proud to have all of his children complete college degrees. He also supported his grandchildren on that path. He most recently drove to Florida with a horse trailer full of belongings to move his oldest grandson from Nevada to help him chase his dream of becoming an airline pilot.

Danny was preceded in death by his lifelong love, Ginger; his parents; and his sister, Terri Wagner. He is survived by his three children, Kris (Vanessa) Urquhart, Shannon Urquhart, and Amanda (Elika) Brock; his five grandchildren, Colton, Brody, Allison, Kinley and Rigby; his sister, Glenda Craddock; and four nieces.

He will be missed beyond belief and has left a hole in many hearts. There is nothing he couldn’t do.

Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Home, Saturday, Sept. 27, 2025, at 1 p.m. A gathering of family and friends will follow.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Fallon NBU, his favorite nonprofit organization dedicated to bighorn sheep conservation.

My heartfelt condolences to the family. I worked for Danny at Walco in the mid 80's, and I liked him.

They strung them along for years until they had no financial choice but to accept and get out. My Dad even hauled water for the Snow ranch trying to stay afloat. May God bless you all. I truly pray it works out for you.Comment publication date: 3/28/26, 9:22 PMComment source: Local Rancher Says Navy Land Expansion is Devastating His Family RanchComment author: Lynn JohnsonComment text: I remember your mother well; she was a lovely and kind woman. I see glimpses of your face in the years worn onto my dad. It makes me feel more connected to you in some way. I remember the familiar kindness from you that I know in my dad. I would’ve really liked to have a good conversation. I only have a handful of memories with you, but you were loving, and you were kind. I wish I was able to say more. If I am someone to you, I hope I make you proud. Thank you Aunt for this sweet post.Comment publication date: 3/27/26, 12:11 AMComment source: Obituary -- Randolph Floris Banovich C Comment author: RBCComment text: The Navy should reimburse the market cost of replacing the grazing land they are taking.
