Obituary - Charles (Chuck) Edward Cognasse

September 1, 1945 – August 31, 2025
Obituary - Charles (Chuck) Edward Cognasse
Chuck Cognasse

Charles “Chuck” Edward Cognasse, lovingly known as “Da Da” to his family, passed away peacefully at home on Aug. 31, 2025 — just one day shy of his 80th birthday — with his beloved partner of 35 years, Carolyn Holcomb, by his side.

Chuck was a true cowboy at heart and in life. He lived the cowboy way—bronc riding, team roping, and working with cattle. Skilled with his hands, he enjoyed building things such as birdhouses and outhouses. Yes, you read that correctly: Chuck enjoyed crafting outhouses, both for their novelty and their practicality.

He loved sharing jokes and laughter with friends over a cold beer. A champion horseshoe player and competitive golfer, he was always up for friendly competition. He also found peace in fishing and hunting. Over the years, Chuck wore many hats—semi-truck driver, surveyor, craftsman, and cattleman—each role reflecting his versatility, work ethic, and resourcefulness.

Chuck is survived by his devoted partner, Carolyn Holcomb; his sister, Vicki Lucas; his daughter, Cynthia Mattison; his stepdaughters, Christy Sullivan and Shannon Winters; and numerous grandchildren. They will love him for eternity and miss him until they see him again, taking comfort in knowing he is in Cowboy Heaven.
