Obituary - Alma Whitehead

February 10, 1932 – April 15, 2024

Alma Whitehead passed peacefully in her daughter's home on Monday, April 15, 2024, while being lovingly attended by her family surrounding her.

Born February 10, 1932, to Ralph and Carolina Matteucci on the family ranch in Fallon, Nevada. Alma spent her early years farming on the family ranch.  She loved helping her family grow fruit and vegetables for the community.  The family ranch was the gathering place for countless aunts and uncles, and cousins.

In 1950, she married Donald Wayne Whitehead. She and Wayne lived all over Nevada while Wayne worked in road construction. Alma loved helping her children and their friends in Jr. Riders, 4-H, and Jr. and High School Rodeos. She traveled to many states to spend time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.  Grandma Alma will be remembered so well by her special talent to soothe the little babies to sleep and countless simple and delicious cream cheese pies. Her family was everything to her, and she taught all of them by example of hard work and caring about others.

Alma was preceded in death by her daughter, Waynette VanFleet, and her parents, Ralph and Carolina Matteucci, and also her brother, Remo Matteucci, and sister, Phyllis Baker.

She is survived by her daughter Donna (Bill) Card Fallon, grandchildren Shylea (Jeff) Wingard Ennis Montana,  Sharmen (Allen) Scafani Whitehall Montana, Boyd VanFleet Greybull Wyoming, Jared (Sunni) Card Fallon, Alayna (Brett) Cadiente Mililani Hawaii, Shonna (Joseph) Fife Pleasant Grove Utah,  Alisa (Shaine) Powers Big Stone Gap Virginia, Jason Card Pleasant Grove Utah, Shayla (Kolten) Collier Scottsdale Arizona, Jacob Card Fallon, Angela (Chase) Perkins Myrtle Beach South Carolina, Conner (Hailey) Card Winnemucca Nevada,  William (Kinsli) Card Fallon, and also, 33 great-grandchildren and countless nieces and nephews.

Alma will be greatly missed.

Funeral services will be held on May 20, 2024, at 11 a.m., at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, at 450 N. Taylor St, Fallon, NV 89406. Burial will follow at the Churchill County Cemetery. The arrangements are under the direction of The Gardens Funeral Home.

They strung them along for years until they had no financial choice but to accept and get out. My Dad even hauled water for the Snow ranch trying to stay afloat. May God bless you all. I truly pray it works out for you.Comment publication date: 3/28/26, 9:22 PMComment source: Local Rancher Says Navy Land Expansion is Devastating His Family RanchComment author: Lynn JohnsonComment text: I remember your mother well; she was a lovely and kind woman. I see glimpses of your face in the years worn onto my dad. It makes me feel more connected to you in some way. I remember the familiar kindness from you that I know in my dad. I would’ve really liked to have a good conversation. I only have a handful of memories with you, but you were loving, and you were kind. I wish I was able to say more. If I am someone to you, I hope I make you proud. Thank you Aunt for this sweet post.Comment publication date: 3/27/26, 12:11 AMComment source: Obituary -- Randolph Floris Banovich C Comment author: RBCComment text: The Navy should reimburse the market cost of replacing the grazing land they are taking.
