Obituary - Merliza Curtis

Merliza Curtis

July 7, 1959 - February 16, 2024

Merliza Curtis, long-time resident of Fallon, passed away peacefully at her home on February 16, 2024 at the age of 64.

Merliza was small but mighty. She is remembered for her strength, consistent smile, and random humor.

She was born on July 7, 1959, to Larry Aguasin and Nenita Rivera. Merliza and her siblings grew up in Manila, Philippines. She immigrated to the United States in 1979. She lived in San Francisco for a few years before moving to Nevada for the remainder of her life.

In 1984, Merliza met and fell in love with Elie, and they were married in Reno, NV. Elie and Merliza moved to Fallon shortly thereafter, where they raised their daughters, Marikris and Yvonne Curtis. Merliza took pride in being a dedicated wife and loving mother. In the early years, she helped support her family by working at the local community college while earning multiple associate degrees. When her daughters entered high school, she worked at the Churchill County High School library part-time. After her daughters graduated high school, she became a water coordinator for TCID and worked there until her retirement in 2023.

Merliza was preceded in death by her father, Larry Aguasin. She is survived by her husband, Elie Curtis Jr. (Fallon, NV); step-daughter, Shannon Curtis (Nevada); step-son, Eric Curtis (Nevada); her daughters, Marikris Curtis (Texas) and Yvonne Curtis (Nevada), and bonus daughter Marie Rose Zoutomou (North Carolina). She also leaves to cherish her memory her mother, Nenita Rivera (England); her older brother, Edwin Aguasin (California); younger sister, Noida Aquilar (California); younger brother, Alvin Rivera (England); and several nieces, nephews, and grandchildren. She will be greatly missed, but the love she shared will continue to live on in our memories.

There will be a celebration of her life held at The Gardens Chapel on Friday, February 23, 2024, from 5 to 7 p.m.

Arrangements are under the direction of The Gardens Funeral Home, 12949 Austin Highway, Fallon, Nevada 89406, 775-423-8928.

Comment author: Claude EzzellComment text: Paul was one of the most manifest men I have ever met. He was a good friends with my Dad and always had an entertaining story for the occasion. One of my most favorite stories Paul told dated back to the late 60s or early 70s and it revolved around him killing a deer way out in the mountains. Naturally the deer ran down into a deep canyon and died. Knowing that it would take him forever to haul it out he devised an awesome plan. After preparing the deer he drove back to NAS Fallon and rustled up a SAR crew and they flew out and picked up the deer. Of course it was labeled as a training flight but what the hell in those days you could do that sort of thing. Rest in Peace my friend until we meet again!!Comment publication date: 4/11/24, 1:15 PMComment source: Obituary - LCDR Paul N PflimlinComment author: THughesComment text: So sad to hear.
