In Celebration of the life of William DeVere Gunn
Bill Gunn

William DeVere Gunn (Bill) age 78 of Fallon Nevada, went home to his Lord and Savior, on Wednesday, November 1, 2023.

He was surrounded by a room full of his family in prayer and love, sharing stories, pictures, and messages from the few who were unable to make the trip to say goodbye to a wonderful man, so loved and well thought of by everyone who knew him.

Bill was born in Huntington Park, California on April 15, 1945, to Edwin Thomas Gunn and Lina Grace (Bunny) Knight. He has three beloved siblings. His brother Thomas Gunn, sister April, and brother John Knight.

Bill married the love of his life Lane Johnson in Buena Park, California on July 3, 1965. They had three precious children, Tracy, Erin, and Billy.

After Bill moved his family to Fallon, NV in 1978 Erin was diagnosed with a brain tumor, Erin asked her daddy who Jesus was. Bill dug deep into every religion he knew of, finding the answer in the Bible alone.

Bill led his family in church fellowship and made the Bible the foundation of all their lives. That foundation alongside their loving family, church, and farming communities helped them keep moving forward in a life of joy and praise when Erin went home to be with the Lord on November 26, 1980.

Bill had a passion for sharing the Lord, leading many family, friends, and strangers not only to salvation in Christ, but how to grow in a loving relationship with Jesus. He led his son-in-law Dan Knisley to the Lord and was instrumental in his daughter-in-law Jennifer Gunn's relationship with Christ as well.

He would wake up in the wee hours of the morning so that he could read the Bible for an hour, with a goal of getting from Genius to Revelations in a year, His Bible was filled with pictures and notes from his grandchildren.  Leighton, Wade, Austin, Katie, Shane, Trevor, Kent and Mallory. He would pray for them and their spouses every day along with his great-grandchildren. Jane, Wilson, Owen, Ruth, Caroline, Bryannah, Madalyn, Liam, Makenna & Lizabeth.

Bill Gunn was the most genuine, hardworking, and loving man, always ready to give a helping hand and famous in the hay industry for his straight stacks and how well he backed up a set of doubles. He was a great salesman at Country II, he so enjoyed working with his daughter Tracy and sharing the Lord with customers who stopped by. His greeting of Brotherrrr! will always be heard in his voice no matter who says it. Bill will be greatly missed.

The family invites you to a celebration of life to be held on Saturday, November 18th, 2023 at Smith Family Funeral Home, 505 Rio Vista Dr. in Fallon from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm.

It makes me feel more connected to you in some way. I remember the familiar kindness from you that I know in my dad. I would’ve really liked to have a good conversation. I only have a handful of memories with you, but you were loving, and you were kind. I wish I was able to say more. If I am someone to you, I hope I make you proud. Thank you Aunt for this sweet post.Comment publication date: 3/27/26, 12:11 AMComment source: Obituary -- Randolph Floris Banovich C Comment author: RBCComment text: The Navy should reimburse the market cost of replacing the grazing land they are taking. I am Kelly’s sister, Charlene B Johnson and his daughter is Trisha Benjamin. The Fallon Tribal Police acted unconscionably by not notifying the family first. This is devastating for us especially after speaking a little bit with the officer handling the report and The Chief Juarez. Who refused to give me any further details or to at least let me know the FBI was notified and that they were investigating if my brothers death was foul play or not. My understanding is the FBI is called when a body is found. Tribal Chairwoman please do the family a solid and make sure the finding of my brother was due to suspicious circumstances.Comment publication date: 3/24/26, 1:55 PMComment source: Fallon Paiute-Shoshone Tribe Reports Death Under InvestigationComment author: Nicole GalbraithComment text: Farren - I just saw that you aren’t here with us. I am completely in shock! I met you and hung out with you so many years ago with Jer, and Eden. I honestly can’t believe you are gone…..you were a wonderful human being, with a HUGE heart and soul. Hearing this makes my heart break! You are forever in our hearts, and I can say I feel blessed that I was able to know you!
