Summer Reading Program is back!

The Summer Reading Program has four special events planned this month, which started with a kick-off carnival of family-friendly games, activities, and food. On June 8, come out for Reading with Rover at 3:30 p.m. with the gentle and attentive dogs. An illustration workshop for children with illustra­tor Millie Phan takes place on June 22 at 2 p.m. Wrap up the month on June 28 at 2 p.m. with a wildlife presenta­tion from the Nevada Department of Wildlife.

Special Events

Learn-to-fly-a-drone workshop happening on June 7 from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.

Office hours with Senator Jacki Rosen’s representative on June 8 at 1 p.m.

Drop-in 3D printing workshops take place June 14 and 28 from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Using the library’s 3D printer, make objects, both useful and pretty, and learn more about this popular technology.

Need a career change?

Let EmployNV help you with aspects of finding a new job on June 22 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the library. EmployNV staff will help you with aspects of finding a new job.

Ongoing Programs

“1,000 Books Before Kindergarten” encourages youngsters to read age-appropriate books before entering school. Book titles are suggested and offered by library staff. Recognition given for every 100 books read on the way to 1,000! Sign-ups accepted at any time.

Tuesdays

The Knitting Club meets at 10 a.m. and welcomes both novice and advanced knitters. They are willing to offer advice and tips and offer encouragement on your project.

Virtual Reality drop-in sessions take place from 3:15 to 5 p.m. All welcome to stop by.

The Writer’s Group meets at 5 p.m. and welcomes you to discover what area writers are inspired by and working on. Bring your own manuscript to add a few paragraphs.

Wednesdays

In-person children’s story time at 11 a.m. Children’s Librarian Miss J reads picture books to children. Each session is recorded and posted to the library’s YouTube account for on-demand viewing at your convenience.

Thursdays

Children’s story time at 10 and 11 a.m. and Knitting Club meets again at 4 p.m.

Fridays

STEAM sessions with VR are on Fridays from 1:30 to 3 p.m.

Have a problem with your computer or smartphone? Head over the William N. Pennington Life Center on Fridays from 10 to 11 a.m. and get answers from Technical Services Librarian Joe Salsman, an expert in all thing’s technology.
Hours of operation

Library hours of operation are Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Closed on Sundays and major holidays.

Comment author: Claude EzzellComment text: Paul was one of the most manifest men I have ever met. He was a good friends with my Dad and always had an entertaining story for the occasion. One of my most favorite stories Paul told dated back to the late 60s or early 70s and it revolved around him killing a deer way out in the mountains. Naturally the deer ran down into a deep canyon and died. Knowing that it would take him forever to haul it out he devised an awesome plan. After preparing the deer he drove back to NAS Fallon and rustled up a SAR crew and they flew out and picked up the deer. Of course it was labeled as a training flight but what the hell in those days you could do that sort of thing.
