By Rachel DahlThe Churchill County Library will be featuring a display curated by the Churchill County Museum in partnership with the Nevada State Park’s “Library Park Pass Program.”
State Parks launched the program on the first of the year, which allows Nevadans with a public library card to gain free entry into all 27 state parks across the state. Each pass will cover the day-use entrance fee for one passenger vehicle with a capacity of eight people or less. Park fees may be assessed for boating, camping, or other specific fees including special programs or tours.
Library cardholders can check out the pass for one week at their local public library and the pass is valid at all 27 Nevada State Parks. A list of the parks is available at parks.nv.gov/parks and includes Lahontan State Park, Buckland Station, Berlin-Ichthyosaur, Fort Churchill, and Rye Patch, all relatively close to Churchill County.
Passes can be reserved at the library or online at https://t.co/xjHxRLuGxW and specific checkout and return procedures are available there.
The goal of the program is to make Nevada’s parks as accessible as possible by providing an opportunity for all residents to access and experience a state park at no cost. The program is currently funded by the Nevada State Parks Gift Shop Grant Program, which allocates the proceeds from all park gift shop sales to educational and interpretive programs in the state parks.
Carol Lloyd, Churchill County Librarian said that she appreciates working with her counterparts at the Churchill County Museum and is looking forward to hosting their exhibit at the library. “Photographs of state parks from the Churchill County Museum collection be will on display in the library from February through May in support of the Library Park Pass program. It's a great collaboration to highlight the beautiful Nevada State Parks.”
