Highway Patrol Investigating Pedestrian Fatality

The Nevada Department of Public Safety, Highway Patrol has issued a statement in the investigation of the pedestrian fatality that occurred on November 21, 2022 on Highway 50 near Roberson Lane.

According to the statement, the preliminary investigation indicates that James Williams Cains, age 69, was walking in the #2 westbound travel lane on Highway 50 near Roberson Lane. A gray 2017 Toyota Tundra driven by Brent Michael Worring, age 32, was traveling westbound on Hwy 50 near Roberson Lane in the #2 travel lane.

The front of the Toyota Tundra struck Cains. The Toyota Tundra came to a controlled stop facing westbound in between the #2 and right paved shoulder. A gray 2012 Dodge Durango driven by Carline Jeanette Phay, age 30, was traveling westbound on Hwy 50 near Roberson Lane in the #2 travel lane behind the Tundra. The right side of the Durango side struck Cains, and the Durango was moved prior to NHP arrival.

Cains came to rest in the westbound #2 travel lane, and Cains was pronounced deceased on scene.

Trooper Shaffer #418 is investigating this crash. Next of kin has been notified.
