Obituary - Barbara Barlow

A Larger Than Life Character
Obituary - Barbara Barlow
Barbara Barlow

Barbara Barlow passed from this life on September 6, 2022, leaving a loss in her little hometown of Mina, Nevada.

To know her was to see a kind, loving person who would do anything for you. Barbara’s talk was rough and caustic, but her actions were unmistakably kind and caring. She had a remarkably good sense of humor and a quick wit.  Barbara was generous beyond measure, thoughtful beyond words, and ornery beyond description.

Throughout Barbara’s long life in Mina, she immersed herself in raising a family and serving the community.  Always ready for a new adventure, whether driving a school bus, acting as constable, flagging for NDOT, or cooking for the mines, she gave it her all and added a fair dose of attitude. She loved the community of Mina and contributed unselfishly and constantly: weeding the cemetery, acting as area tour guide, and helping with fundraisers.

At 90 and a half years of age, she was still tending shrubs and trees in the yard, caring for neighbors and friends, and providing care and attention to her beloved dog and companion, Bella.

Barbara took her job as “coolest Gramma ever” seriously and mastered it! She loved camping, fishing, and hunting with her family, and never hesitated to be involved in her grandkids' interests and antics - waterskiing, RV-ing, nothing was off limits.  And she was always, always up for a good party.

Barbara was a good steady wife and loyal mother.  Her children learned strong ethics from her example of being responsible, disciplined,  and working hard. Barbara was available and involved in all her children’s activities, and her wonderful adventurous spirit created many fun and interesting escapades that will long be remembered.

The streets of Mina won’t be the same without her little red truck rambling around. She will live on in our hearts with amazing memories and with every margarita.

On behalf of our family, we would like to thank all of her friends for helping fulfill her days. A celebration of Barbara’s well-lived life will be forthcoming this spring.

Barbara had a huge heart of gold I had the pleasure of knowing her as she took care of “granny” my aunt before she passed. She helped me in so many ways after as I bought granny’s mobile home and property in Mina. We loved to sit out on the porch and drink tequila and shoot the breeze when I was there I hadn’t seen her in years since selling the property. I dreamt of her last night so looked her up and found she must be contacting me as an angel from heaven! Love you Barbara see you again my sweet friend. Sue

Comment author: BonnieComment text: Good Luck to all of you. I mean this sincerely. My family fought the Navy for years. My parents owned Horse Creek (Pat and Linda Dempsey). They strung them along for years until they had no financial choice but to accept and get out. My Dad even hauled water for the Snow ranch trying to stay afloat. May God bless you all. I truly pray it works out for you.Comment publication date: 3/28/26, 9:22 PMComment source: Local Rancher Says Navy Land Expansion is Devastating His Family RanchComment author: Lynn JohnsonComment text: I remember your mother well; she was a lovely and kind woman. I see glimpses of your face in the years worn onto my dad. It makes me feel more connected to you in some way. I remember the familiar kindness from you that I know in my dad. I would’ve really liked to have a good conversation. I only have a handful of memories with you, but you were loving, and you were kind. I wish I was able to say more. If I am someone to you, I hope I make you proud. Thank you Aunt for this sweet post.Comment publication date: 3/27/26, 12:11 AMComment source: Obituary -- Randolph Floris Banovich C Comment author: RBCComment text: The Navy should reimburse the market cost of replacing the grazing land they are taking.
