The Fallon Chamber of Commerce and CEDA/SBDC are hosting the annual Small Business event on Saturday, November 26 where we encourage all to shop local. This year organizers are adding a little Fallon twist.

There will be a welcome booth at the Old Post Office. Come and get coffee and your game pieces at 90 N. Maine St. starting at 8:00 a.m. to play the games set up around town as you do your shopping. Many vendors will be there to see before you hit our local stores.

This year there are two games to play while you shop - Business Bingo and Gurka in Business. Be sure to stop at the Old Post Office building to pick up your bingo card. Every time you spend $5 or more at a shop, have them stamp or initial their store name on your bingo card. When you get a bingo, be sure to turn the card like a game piece into one of the drop locations to be entered for the prize drawings.

Additionally, be sure to look for the Greenwave Gurka in every store you visit. Take a selfie with the Gurka and post it at #GurkaInBusiness. No inappropriateness, violence, or vulgarity with the Gurka, please, the little green dude gets embarrassed easily, and your entry will be disqualified. The more entries, the more chances of winning a prize basket filled with local goodies. One entry per business.

Small Business Saturday is an American shopping holiday held on the Saturday after Thanksgiving during one of the busiest shopping periods of the year.

Comment author: Claude EzzellComment text: Paul was one of the most manifest men I have ever met. He was a good friends with my Dad and always had an entertaining story for the occasion. One of my most favorite stories Paul told dated back to the late 60s or early 70s and it revolved around him killing a deer way out in the mountains. Naturally the deer ran down into a deep canyon and died. Knowing that it would take him forever to haul it out he devised an awesome plan. After preparing the deer he drove back to NAS Fallon and rustled up a SAR crew and they flew out and picked up the deer. Of course it was labeled as a training flight but what the hell in those days you could do that sort of thing. Rest in Peace my friend until we meet again!!Comment publication date: 4/11/24, 1:15 PMComment source: Obituary - LCDR Paul N PflimlinComment author: THughesComment text: So sad to hear.
