Octane Fest kicks off with an action-packed lineup of events on Friday that lead into Saturday, featuring all kinds of high-powered dirt track motorsports racing.

Motorheads from all over Nevada and the west will be heading to the Oasis of Nevada for the action-packed lineup.

Starting Friday at 7 p.m. drive up to Rattlesnake Hill to experience the thrill of circle track races, timed tough trucks, trailer races, and demolition derby. On Saturday, beginning at 6 p.m. the excitement continues with more circle track races followed by contact tough trucks, chain races, and a figure 8 race. The price of admission ranges from $5 to $10 per ticket. For more information and to purchase tickets, go to rattlesnakeraceway.org/buy-tickets.

Also revving their engines are top drag cars from across the west who will converge at Top Gun Dragstrip which hosts the NHRA Pacific National Open Series this weekend at the racetrack located 17 miles south of Fallon on June 10 through the 12. The Junior Drag Racing League will also race as well at the ET Summit Series.  The track opens at 7 a.m. on Friday with races scheduled over three days. Se the website at topgunraceway.com for more information.

In addition to the Octane Fest activities, and a perfect complement, the 12th Annual Rockabilly Riot will kick off at the Rafter 3C on Friday, June 9 with hot rods, vendors, tattoo artists, a Pin Up contest on Saturday at 7 p.m., and several live bands.

The memories remain of a soft-spoken, seemingly unassuming but determined individual who absolutely knew what path she wanted to take in life, and followed it. Her instinctive reactions, which highlighted her steadfast level of love and caring for her family, friends and all living things found in nature, hold lessons for us all. An unexpected splash of her self-deprecating humor, coupled with uncanny timing, will always bring a smile. For me, Marie lives on in the sighting of a Black-crowned night heron in the tules, the bloom of a beautiful spring flower and, most poetically, in the struggle of wildlife photographers handling their very large camera lenses. Her dad Ted was my dad's brother. I never knew Ted or Betty, but I wish I did. I am 73 and live in IL. I am building my family tree and see where Betty has fit in. Blessings to you Curt and family.
