Maliah's Minute -- Next School Year is Set to be Fantastic

After applying for Office Aide and running for treasurer of the student council, I have been very nervous to find out the results of my efforts.

On Monday I was called to the office and was told I was accepted as an office aide, and they gave me a small rundown of how that is going to affect my schedule. I was excited to hear that one of my close friends was also accepted so we will be doing it kind of together.

On Wednesday I was called down to the office and I knew it was about the winners of the election. They said all the votes were very close and that we all had a great chance and a good election. Of course, they started with the president, then the vice president, then the secretary, and finally the one I had been waiting for.

I wasn’t that nervous because many students had been encouraging and they gave me confidence. On the day of the election, I had a lot of people come up to me and say that they voted for me. I didn't want to get too confident, but it sure helped with being nervous and stressed.

I felt like it took her forever to announce who had won, just to make it more suspenseful. As everyone was cheering on their friends that had won, I was crossing my fingers and hoping I had won, too.

Finally, she said, “and for treasurer, we have Maliah Harris.”

Some of my friends started cheering and clapping. I had no idea what to do so I just smiled.

I was very happy she said my name correctly. Most people when they first pronounce it, say it wrong, which I have gotten used to. Now as the year comes to end, I get excited for 8th grade when I’ll be known as Maliah Harris, the 8th grader who not only is an office aide but is also the treasurer of the student council.

Congratulations, Maliah, from all of us at The Fallon Post!
