Book Report -- Carol Recommends

Ready, Set Cook, by Dawn Perry
Book Report -- Carol Recommends

“How to Make Good Food with What’s on Hand. (No Fancy Skills, Fancy Equipment, or Fancy Budget Required” reads the cover of this cookbook. And it’s true. It’s also has exactly what I like in a cookbook; lots of white space on the page for easy reading, appetizing color pictures, ingredients I’m likely to have in my cupboard, and absolutely no calorie information.

(Cocktail recipes would be a welcome addition to this book but then I can usually figure that one out on my own.)

I read lots of cookbooks and don’t actually try the recipes very often. I guess they are more for inspiration. Not the case with this one.

At the risk of getting in Kelli’s lane, I will recommend the Old-Fashioned Coffee Cake (page 141) and the Oven-Baked Meatballs (page 96). Both delicious and I’ve made them multiple times. This one’s a winner.

This title is available in print at the Library and downloadable eBook through Overdrive/Libby.

Carol is the Director of the Churchill County Library. She has been cooking since she was a child but not always well.

He worked with my dad on a range improvement project on our ranch. Funny, enjoyable to be around & work with. Always meant to look him up & spend more time with him. Sad to have missed him. Even though she was quiet, she still had a knack for making everyone feel seen and heard. Her kindness to me was heartfelt. I'll always remember her passion for rehoming cats and her deep love for arts and crafts. It was a joy to hear her talk about her latest mosaic or stained glass project. My thoughts are with her partner, David, who was such a source of comfort and strength for her, and with her longtime friend, Mary, who continued to bring joy into Christine's life to the very end.Comment publication date: 8/20/25, 12:48 PMComment source: Obituary - Christine Brooke Jensen July 1, 1946-August 8, 2025
