Obituary -- William Anson (Bill) Card

Obituary -- William Anson (Bill) Card
Bill Card

William Anson (Bill) Card was born in St. Louis, Missouri on March 5, 1934 to Charles and Marion Card and passed from this life on January 13, 2022 in Fallon, Nevada.

Bill spent his early years moving frequently as his father was an executive with the Scott Paper Company. Lifelong friends developed throughout his youth moving to various locations including Springfield, Pennsylvania and Anacortes, Washington. It was in Anacortes where Bill completed his last two years of high school starring on the football team playing both ways as right halfback and safety.

It was also in Anacortes where Bill met and married the lovely Jeri Irons and they began their family with the birth of daughter Dianne. Soon after, Debbie, Bill and Carol completed the family. Supporting his growing family Bill worked a variety of jobs including salmon fishing in Alaska and selling both motor and sailboats.

The wide open spaces had always pulled at Bill and in 1968 he moved his family from Morgan Hill, California to Fallon, Nevada where Bill fulfilled his lifelong dream of being a cowboy. Bill purchased a ranch on the Austin Highway, raising cattle and alfalfa and growing a collection of animals including dogs, cats, pigs, chickens, goats and a raven named Joebird.

Bill’s wife Jeri passed suddenly in 1979 and soon thereafter Bill married Ruth. Bill and Ruth continued the ranching life, purchasing the Segura Ranch in eastern Nevada then relocating to the current residence on Wildes Road. Bill had a huge heart and opened his door to any and all who made their way onto his porch providing all with a respite from whatever their storm.

The growing menagerie now included horses, donkeys, ostriches, ducks, countless dogs and cats. All were named and Bill delighted in giving them unique names, such as the cat who lived in the barn, Barney, the newly acquired dog, New Dog, the cat that disappeared for a while, Gone a Year, to name a few.

Bill is survived by his children Dianne Card-Latta, Debbie Card, Bill (Donna) Card and Carol (Charlie) Arciniega, 16 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Bill worked hard all of his life and passed his work ethic onto his children. He is missed by all of us who have had the pleasure of knowing him.

In remembrance of Bill please send donations to Fallon Animal Welfare Group (FAWG) PBM 377, Fallon, NV 89406.

They strung them along for years until they had no financial choice but to accept and get out. My Dad even hauled water for the Snow ranch trying to stay afloat. May God bless you all. I truly pray it works out for you.Comment publication date: 3/28/26, 9:22 PMComment source: Local Rancher Says Navy Land Expansion is Devastating His Family RanchComment author: Lynn JohnsonComment text: I remember your mother well; she was a lovely and kind woman. I see glimpses of your face in the years worn onto my dad. It makes me feel more connected to you in some way. I remember the familiar kindness from you that I know in my dad. I would’ve really liked to have a good conversation. I only have a handful of memories with you, but you were loving, and you were kind. I wish I was able to say more. If I am someone to you, I hope I make you proud. Thank you Aunt for this sweet post.Comment publication date: 3/27/26, 12:11 AMComment source: Obituary -- Randolph Floris Banovich C Comment author: RBCComment text: The Navy should reimburse the market cost of replacing the grazing land they are taking.
