Tom Riggins Announces Run for Commission Seat

Tom Riggins Announces Run for Commission Seat
Tom Riggins

Former Churchill County School Board member Tom Riggins, registered Republican, announced on Wednesday at the Churchill County Republican Central Committee meeting, his intentions to run for the open County Commission seat District 2, currently held by Pete Olsen.

Riggins has lived in Churchill County for over 40 years and has been involved in education, 4-H and FFA, and the local Republican Committee. He served for several years as a Nevada State Fair Board member and currently serves on the County Board of Equalization. He has also written a local political column for several years in the Lahontan Valley News.

In his statement, Riggins said that he decided to run for office because of the increasing intrusion of state and federal government in our local lifestyle. “It will be necessary to be vigilant and proactive to retain the small town, rural lifestyle we enjoy,” he said.

So far, the only other declared candidate for the commission seat, District 2 is Tanya Freeman, also a Republican. Official filing for office this 2022 election year is March 7-18.

We reached out to the writer/submitter and got this info back...hope it's helpful. PBM: Pharmacy Benefit Managers are pharmacies that are owned by insurance companies. (CVS is one.) They negotiate with drug makers to get reduced pricing for medications, but they historically have not passed along those savings to patients. https://www.ftc.gov/system/files/ftc_gov/pdf/pharmacy-benefit-managers-staff-report.pdf MFN: Most Favored Nation pricing is a policy that means a country agrees to offer the same trade concessions (like tariffs or price reductions) to all member nations of the World Trade Organization (WTO). When applied to pharmaceuticals, it could disrupt global access, deter innovation, and obscure the deeper systemic issues in American health care. https://petrieflom.law.harvard.edu/2025/05/22/the-global-risks-of-americas-most-favored-nation-drug-pricing-policy/Comment publication date: 6/23/25, 7:47 AMComment source: L E T T E R TO THE EDITOR
