Book Review -- Better Luck Next Time

Better Luck Next Time by Julia Claiborne Johnson
Book Review -- Better Luck Next Time

Ward is a retired doctor living in a nursing home and reminiscing over an old photo taken in the summer of 1948 at the Flying Leap Dude Ranch near Reno when he was young and handsome.

And what a tale he has to tell. A ranch full of wealthy women waiting their six weeks to gain a divorce. Ahhh…those were the days. A Pierce-Arrow automobile with cashmere upholstery, the plane with folding wings, the best horse that ever lived, and a couple of fun-loving soon-to-be single women to start this party off on the right foot.

Things don’t go as planned but then they seldom do. This is a fun romp made better by the wonderful voice of the aging narrator.

This title is available on hoopla Flex, Overdrive/Libby in downloadable ebook and eaudio, and in print.

Carol is the Director of the Churchill County Library. She was delighted to hear the sound of happy children in the library today which is open by appointment.

We reached out to the writer/submitter and got this info back...hope it's helpful. PBM: Pharmacy Benefit Managers are pharmacies that are owned by insurance companies. (CVS is one.) They negotiate with drug makers to get reduced pricing for medications, but they historically have not passed along those savings to patients. https://www.ftc.gov/system/files/ftc_gov/pdf/pharmacy-benefit-managers-staff-report.pdf MFN: Most Favored Nation pricing is a policy that means a country agrees to offer the same trade concessions (like tariffs or price reductions) to all member nations of the World Trade Organization (WTO). When applied to pharmaceuticals, it could disrupt global access, deter innovation, and obscure the deeper systemic issues in American health care. https://petrieflom.law.harvard.edu/2025/05/22/the-global-risks-of-americas-most-favored-nation-drug-pricing-policy/Comment publication date: 6/23/25, 7:47 AMComment source: L E T T E R TO THE EDITOR
