Obituary -- E. Bruce Fitzsimmons
E. Bruce Fitzsimmons

We say goodbye to E. Bruce Fitzsimmons, husband, father, grandfather, brother. He passed on January 9 after a short illness. He was a caring man, and all those who knew him will miss him. He enjoyed all things that had to do with trains, planes, and automobiles, taking high school students to the auto museum in Reno with the car club; driving his Model T in parades; and having a good time with family and friends. He was a great mechanic and repairman for all things. It seemed like there wasn't anything he couldn't fix, and if he couldn't find a tool he needed, he would make it. The last few years he really enjoyed traveling by air with his son-in-law as his pilot.

Born November 3, 1933, Bruce grew up traveling the country with his family during World War II before they settled in Tarzana, CA. He spent two years in the U.S. Army Signal Corp. He resettled in Tarzana, where he met Carol, his soon-to-be wife, and worked at Pacific Airmotive Corp. Later, Bruce moved his family to Fallon, NV, where they have lived for the past 47 years. He managed the parts department at Bill Janess Chevrolet for many years. Upon retiring at 59, he worked on antique cars for himself and others. He enjoyed being a founding member of the Fallon Chapter, Antique Automobile Club of America.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Carol; son, Ian Fitzsimmons; daughter, Laurel (Willie) Topken; grandchildren, Cassie Topken, and Erick (Laney) Topken; step-granddaughters Keesha Mahon and Clarissa (Katherine) Zuver; and great-grandchildren, Kathleen, Britney, Jaylea, and Jaden.

He is now soaring the heavens and tinkering on projects. We will miss him greatly. RIP Dad, we have things taken care of here.

Please send donations in lieu of flowers to the National Automobile Museum in Reno, NV, or a charity of your choice. A wake will be held at a later date in Fallon. Arrangements are by The Gardens Funeral Home.

They strung them along for years until they had no financial choice but to accept and get out. My Dad even hauled water for the Snow ranch trying to stay afloat. May God bless you all. I truly pray it works out for you.Comment publication date: 3/28/26, 9:22 PMComment source: Local Rancher Says Navy Land Expansion is Devastating His Family RanchComment author: Lynn JohnsonComment text: I remember your mother well; she was a lovely and kind woman. I see glimpses of your face in the years worn onto my dad. It makes me feel more connected to you in some way. I remember the familiar kindness from you that I know in my dad. I would’ve really liked to have a good conversation. I only have a handful of memories with you, but you were loving, and you were kind. I wish I was able to say more. If I am someone to you, I hope I make you proud. Thank you Aunt for this sweet post.Comment publication date: 3/27/26, 12:11 AMComment source: Obituary -- Randolph Floris Banovich C Comment author: RBCComment text: The Navy should reimburse the market cost of replacing the grazing land they are taking.
