State of Nevada NIAA 3A State Champions — Team Takes 4th Place
The Churchill County School District recently honored the state champion wrestlers at their board meeting. Trustees Amber Getto and Trisha Strasdin presented the awards to Ben Dooley who wrestled in the 285 class, winning the 3A regional and state honors; Tommy McCormick who wrestled the 152 weight and took both the regional and state titles; and Sean McCormick, wrestling the 170 class, winning both the regional and state honors.
As a team the wrestlers took 4th place behind Spring Creek, 1st with 236 points; Virgin Valley, 2nd with 83 points; Boulder City, 3rd with 77 points; and Churchill, 4th with 69 points.
Sean McCormick is a senior, and this title makes the fourth time he has won the state title. This is the first time in the history of the school that an athlete has won four consecutive state titles.
After the presentation by board members, coach Dan Shaw gave remarks and thanked the school district, the City of Fallon for their police escort of the boys as they returned home the night of their win, and the community for their support of the student athletes.
