Obituary — Raymond Edward Mertens
RAYMOND EDWARD MERTENS, age 87, passed away at home on February 23, 2020. He was born October 24, 1932 in Chico, CA to George and Emma Clever Mertens. Ray was a farmer. He is survived by his daughters, Rinnie Barrenchea; Linda Mertens and Susanne Mathern and his sons, Donald and Larry “Butch” Mertens. A celebration of life potluck will be held on Saturday March 14th from 5:30 till 8:30 at the Fallon Senior Center.
Arrangements are with Smith Family Funeral Home in Fallon. 423-2255.

The memories remain of a soft-spoken, seemingly unassuming but determined individual who absolutely knew what path she wanted to take in life, and followed it. Her instinctive reactions, which highlighted her steadfast level of love and caring for her family, friends and all living things found in nature, hold lessons for us all. An unexpected splash of her self-deprecating humor, coupled with uncanny timing, will always bring a smile. For me, Marie lives on in the sighting of a Black-crowned night heron in the tules, the bloom of a beautiful spring flower and, most poetically, in the struggle of wildlife photographers handling their very large camera lenses.
