Mayor Withdraws Nomination for "Person of the Year"

Mayor Ken Tedford was nominated along with Billy Thompson and Burt Miller by the members of the Fallon Chamber for their annual awards ceremony in the "Person of the Year" category. Early this morning Mayor Tedford and Thompson both withdrew their nominations, the Mayor's office posting the following statement on social media. "It is indeed a great honor to be nominated for Person of the Year, but I wish to withdraw my nomination. I do have great passion to make Fallon a great place to live and work and I do push others to reach that goal. A great year it has been. But all that being said, I feel it falls short and is pale in comparison to Bert Miller, a friend of mine who just 5 short months ago was killed by a gunman as he worshipped in church. As some of you know, I have lived that situation closely since that tragic Sunday. This husband, dad, granddad, volunteer fireman and church leader had given so muh to our community and now he is gone. The hurt still lingers for me and our community. With respect to Billy Thompson, a fine nominee, it is just a special time to honor Bert. It is Bert's time. Thank you. Mayor Ken Tedford" The Chamber awards banquet will be held on February 1, 2019 at 6pm at the Fallon Convention Center. Contact Lucy at 775-423-2544 for more information.

Comment author: Patti Cole Comment text: Marie will be forever treasured in memories. The memories remain of a soft-spoken, seemingly unassuming but determined individual who absolutely knew what path she wanted to take in life, and followed it. Her instinctive reactions, which highlighted her steadfast level of love and caring for her family, friends and all living things found in nature, hold lessons for us all. An unexpected splash of her self-deprecating humor, coupled with uncanny timing, will always bring a smile. For me, Marie lives on in the sighting of a Black-crowned night heron in the tules, the bloom of a beautiful spring flower and, most poetically, in the struggle of wildlife photographers handling their very large camera lenses. Her dad Ted was my dad's brother. I never knew Ted or Betty, but I wish I did. I am 73 and live in IL. I am building my family tree and see where Betty has fit in. Blessings to you Curt and family.
