For the fourth consecutive year, the Churchill County High School girls soccer team has finished as one of the top two teams in the East Division of the Northern 3A.
The Greenwave beat Fernley 3-0 last Saturday to finish with a 6-1-1 record in the East and 10-3-2 overall. They also went 4-2-1 against the West Division, compiling 45 points in the combined standings to earn the No. 4 seed for the 3A North Region Tournament.
The Greenwave was scheduled to host North Tahoe on Tuesday, with the winner advancing to the semifinals on Friday at Lowry, where they would face the winner of No. 1 seed Truckee and No. 8 seed Fernley.
“I think what’s happened in this program across the last five seasons is incredible,” assistant coach Neill Tunstead said. “We are now constantly battling for first place and an expectation of playoff and more has become the norm. Academically we are always in the mix as a team and as individual players for All-State as well as strong case for many players to make league and state team in recognition of their efforts.”
Fallon will try to duplicate its last playoff win, which was against North Tahoe in 2023. The Greenwave and Lakers tied 0-0 in the first game of the season on Aug. 21.
Kortnie Simper, Karlie Simper and Keily Ugalde each scored a goal in last Saturday’s season-finale against Fernley. Evie Johnson, Karlie Simper and Rylee Hammond each had assists, while goalkeeper Shaylee Orduna made two saves.
