Allison Diegel took the reading couch at Rush and Rhythm on Sunday morning, Oct. 18, bringing “Cocoa the Tour Dog” to life for children and adults. Written by Stick Figure and Adam Mansbach and illustrated by Juan Manuel Orozco, the book tells the story of Cocoa, an Australian shepherd found as a stray by the reggae band Stick Figure while it was on tour. Drawn to the spotlight, Cocoa joined the band onstage at shows and became a beloved member of the group and a favorite with audiences.
Sage Academy owners Janet Renfro and Katie Moore-Maloney read to children in the afternoon. Renfro read “Memoirs of a Hamster,” written by Devin Scillian and illustrated by Jim Bowers. The story follows Seymour, a hamster happy with life in his cage until Pearl the cat tricks him into leaving it. Only then does Seymour appreciate his home.
Moore-Maloney read “The Legend of Rock, Paper, Scissors,” written by Drew Daywalt and illustrated by Adam Rex. Rock, Paper, and Scissors are the strongest, smartest, and fastest in the land, defeating opponents including an apricot, a computer printer, and frozen bread. When they finally meet one another, an epic series of battles begins.
The final reading sessions are scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 25, at 11:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Hindi Marciniak, Brad Dolan, Whitney Goligowski, and Anita Pepper will present four stories.
