Three children who spent the night stranded in the desert were safely reunited with their family following an early morning search involving Churchill County Search and Rescue volunteers and the Churchill County Sheriff's Office.
According to a social media post by Churchill County Search and Rescue, the search took place Sunday, Oct. 18, about 10 miles northwest of Fallon. The search was led by Sgt. Mike Davis and Sgt. Jason Fenner. With limited information about the children's location, search teams quickly mobilized, deploying ground searchers, K-9 teams, quads, vehicles, and aerial support.
Local business owner and pilot Paul Picotte assisted with the aerial search, which led to the discovery and rescue of all three children.
Search and Rescue credited the coordinated efforts of volunteers, sheriff's deputies, and Picotte for the successful outcome, noting that searches involving missing children are among the most urgent and challenging missions responders face.
