Katherine “Kathy” Jeannette Moon

July 9, 1935, to September 30, 2026
Katherine “Kathy” Jeannette Moon

Kathy Moon, loving wife, selfless mother, adoring grandmother, dutiful daughter and sister, avid golfer, pet lover, and steadfast friend, passed away peacefully at home in the early hours of September 30, 2026. She was 91. Kathy faced several months of battling health challenges with remarkable courage and grace.

Katherine Jeannette Egbert was born July 9, 1935, in Modesto, California, to Benjamin and Dorothy (Wood) Egbert. She grew up in Quincy, California, alongside her brother, Richard. After attending college in Modesto, she embarked on a banking career that took her to San Francisco, Boston, and finally Reno, where she met the love of her life, Walter “Jerry” Moon, at First National Bank. They married in June 1965 and welcomed three sons: Jeffrey (1966), Steven (1969) and Gregory (1971).

The bank moved the Moon family across Nevada to Stateline, Gardnerville, Tonopah, Yerington, and finally, in 1976, Fallon. Kathy happily devoted herself to her husband, the boys, and their home. Favorite family pastimes included golf, playing countless backyard games and team sports, traveling, and trips to visit the grandparents in Reno and Quincy.

When Jerry passed in 1980, Kathy dedicated herself to raising their three young sons on her own, returning to her career in banking. For many years, folks would patiently wait in line for her expertise, friendliness, and assistance. After retiring from the bank, she worked part-time at the Fallon Golf Course, where she helped others enjoy the sport.

Kathy considered her sons, Jeff, Steve and Greg, her greatest achievements. She nurtured and supported them as they grew into good, hardworking men, faithful husbands and caring fathers. She delighted in her grandchildren, encouraged them, and helped care for them, never seeming to miss a game, performance, sleepover, or celebration. In her later years, her dogs Maggie, Tank and Stevie brought her immense joy and comfort.

Kathy was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry; her son, Jeff; her parents, Benjamin and Dorothy Egbert; and her brother, Richard Egbert. She is survived by her sons, Steve (Jane) Moon of Fallon and Greg (Theresa) Moon of Fallon, and her grandchildren, Mahal, Jordan, Steven, Jackson and Makenly.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, October 17, 2026, at 2 p.m. at the Churchill County Cemetery in Fallon.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Churchill Animal Protection Society (CAPS), if so inclined.
