The Fallon City Council approved two projects during its brief Oct. 6 meeting, including a parcel consolidation and an engineering contract for the replacement of the Serpa Lift Station. Both measures passed 3-0, with all three council members, Paul Harmon, Kelly Frost, and Karla Kent, voting in favor.
Council members approved a reversion-to-acreage map requested by Churchill Real Estate Investments LLC, combining two parcels into a single approximately 24,840-square-foot parcel within the city's C-1 zoning district.
The property owners submitted the application to consolidate the parcels into one lot. Any future development or improvements must comply with City of Fallon standards and applicable zoning requirements.
The council also approved a professional services contract with Eastern Sierra Engineering for the Serpa Lift Station replacement project in an amount not to exceed $175,345.
Constructed in 1988, the wastewater lift station serves the northeastern portion of Fallon. The aging facility has reached the end of its serviceable life and needs replacement, according to the city's supporting documents.
The city has received a $750,000 Community Development Block Grant toward the project. Construction is estimated to cost between $1.9 million and $2.6 million.
The engineering contract includes evaluating the existing facility, developing replacement alternatives, preparing construction plans, obtaining necessary permits, and providing assistance during bidding and construction.
The engineering firm will evaluate whether portions of the existing facility can be rehabilitated or whether a more extensive replacement is needed. Plans must also address how wastewater service will continue during construction, including temporary bypass pumping if necessary.
The project will move through engineering design and permitting before construction can begin.
The council also approved minutes from six previous meetings and payment warrants covering city bills and expenses, employee payroll, and customer deposit refunds.
