With two weeks remaining in the regular season, the Churchill County High School volleyball team is trying to position itself to make a postseason run.
The Greenwave lost both matches last week, a nonleague matchup with Carson, and a tight four-set battle with Fernley.
On Oct. 6, the Greenwave lost to Carson, one of the top teams in the Northern 5A, 25-20, 25-22, 25-22.
Raegan Jonson led Fallon with 11 kills and Audrey Fruzza added nine, as the Greenwave finished with 25 as a team. Layla Walker had 13 digs, and Kalaya Downs posted 18 assists to go with 12 digs.
On Oct. 8, the Greenwave lost to East Division-leading Fernley, 24-26, 26-24, 27-25, 25-15.
Johnson led the attack with 24 kills and had nine digs. Fruzza had seven kills and 13 digs, and Downs dished out 33 assists with digs, and Walker recorded 19 digs.
That loss left the Greenwave in fourth place in the East Division with a 3-3 record, as well as tied with Incline for seventh in the regional standings with nine points.
This week the Greenwave were scheduled to host Dayton on Friday and play at Lowry at 6 p.m. Friday. Next Wednesday they host Incline in their final West Division crossover.
“I don’t believe we have played our best volleyball yet as a team, but I have faith and confidence that we will,” coach Tristin Johnson said. “Our league is very competitive, which is so exciting. As long as we are playing our best at the end of the season, we will have a chance to advance, and we are looking forward to that opportunity.”
