Fall Arrives in Fallon

Fall celebrations were underway around Fallon as October began, bringing families, students, and neighbors together for everything from Oktoberfest activities to scarecrow building.

Western Nevada College students celebrated Oktoberfest at the Fallon campus. Churchill County Parks and Recreation opened its Scarecrow Factory at the Oats Park Arts Center, and Lattin Farms began its annual Fall Festival.

Western Nevada College’s Fallon campus got into the spirit of Oktoberfest on Wednesday, Sept. 30, at Virgil Getto Hall.

The Associated Students of Western Nevada brought the fall tradition to fellow students with soft pretzels and root beer floats. Students also made lantern jars and posed for pictures with an Oktoberfest photo backdrop.

Families welcomed October with an evening of scarecrow building Friday, Oct. 2, at the Oats Park Arts Center.

Children and their families stuffed clothing with straw and created their own scarecrows during Churchill County Parks and Recreation’s Scarecrow Factory. Nearby, adults gathered for Ales for Arts and listened to live music.

Warm sunshine and a festive crowd added to the evening as families worked together on their creations.

The Scarecrow Factory continues Oct. 10 and 17 at Lattin Farms.

Lattin Farms is continuing its annual Fall Festival, bringing families to the farm for seasonal activities, food, and time together.

Ryan and Lisa returned to Lattin Farms, where Lisa grew up, after her parents retired. They are continuing a family legacy that began in 1918 while helping people reconnect with where their food comes from.

Festival admission is $18, with a $3 discount for tickets purchased online in advance. Children 2 and younger are free. Admission includes the corn maze, hayrides, and the new bounce pad and zip line.

Pumpkins, food, and drinks are available for an additional cost. Craft booths offer jewelry, face painting, 3D-printed gifts, and other items.

New this year from the Lattin Farms kitchen is an apple cider slushie.
