Commissioners Approve Sand Creek Subdivision Phase I

Churchill County Commissioners approved the first phase of the Sand Creek No. 2 subdivision Oct. 1, allowing development to move forward on 25 residential lots south of Casey Road.

The final subdivision map, submitted by Casey Road LLC, is the first phase of a tentative map approved by Commissioners in November 2025. The property is in an R-1 residential zoning district.

Commissioners also approved abandoning an existing 50-foot road easement on the property. The easement will be replaced with dedicated roadways included in the new subdivision map.

SOCIAL SERVICES FUNDING

Commissioners approved a $111,386 Community Services Block Grant for Churchill County Social Services to help provide services to at-risk individuals and families. Those services include food, workforce, utility, and rent assistance, as well as resources for unhoused residents.

Most of the grant, $103,070, will go toward personnel. The remaining funding includes $65 for operating expenses and $8,251 for indirect costs. Funding comes from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services through the Community Services Block Grant program.

HEALTH DISTRICT AGREEMENT

Commissioners renewed an agreement with the Central Nevada Health District for administrative and support services provided by Churchill County. The health district will pay the county $98,621 for fiscal year 2026-27 and $101,087 for 2027-28.

Under the agreement, Churchill County provides fiscal, legal, human resources, and clerk-treasurer services. The payments are based on 25% of the annual salaries, excluding benefits, for four county positions that provide those services.

COUNTY UPDATES

During his management report, County Manager Joe Sanford said the county had received an application for an industrial general improvement district and staff was reviewing it. He said the matter would return to Commissioners at their next meeting.

Sanford also reported that the county submitted its Southern Nevada Public Land Management Act request for statements of qualifications for review. Once approved, the county plans to seek bids for engineering services for its projects, potentially within the next month.

The next Commission meeting has been moved from Oct. 21 to Oct. 15 because of early voting.

Early voting begins Oct. 17 and continues through Oct. 30.
