Fifteen teams totaling 60 golfers took to the Fallon Golf Course on Sept. 19 for the annual Jim Regan Memorial Golf Tournament, continuing a more than 20-year tradition of raising scholarship money for children of Churchill County employees.
Ross McKinnel, Zak Kinkade, Pakela Malama-Gomes, and Eli Jones took first place after two rounds on the nine-hole course. Alan Kalt, Andrew Palmer, Matt Hanifan, and Ed Smirnas finished second, while Darby Rowe, Trent Vass, Mike Lipinsky, and Justin Chambers placed third.
Bailey Coombs and Chelle Dalager won the longest-drive competition, while Lonne Sheldon and Trent Vass earned closest-to-the-pin honors.
The tournament honors Jim Regan, a former Churchill County Commissioner who was active in the community and died while in office in April 2000. Former county Comptroller Alan Kalt conceived the tournament, which is now organized by Alexa Robinson in the County Manager’s Office.
More than $80,000 has been raised through the tournament over the past two decades for post-high school scholarships. This year’s scholarships were awarded to Jilliana Morales, Natalia Martinez de la Cruz, Samantha Maffi, Zack Adams, and Mackenzie Mills.
