In support of childhood literacy in Churchill County, Rush Coffee Company is celebrating Book Month throughout October with community readings and a reading incentive for children.
Jenny Young of Backroads Vintage Market opened the community readings at 11:30 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 4, sharing “Tacky and the Haunted Igloo,” written by Helen Lester and illustrated by Lynn Munsinger, with children and families gathered for the event. At 3 p.m., Ashley Frey of Frey Ranch continued the afternoon’s readings with “Tractors Found on the Farm” by Wordplay Groundhog.
Rush Coffee Company owner Crystal Bowman said, “Come and enjoy children’s books being read on our stage by community members every Sunday in October at 11:30 a.m. and at 3 p.m.”
Community members are scheduled to continue the readings each Sunday through Oct. 25. Ila Friedenthal and Kelli Kelly are scheduled for Oct. 11; Allison Diegel, Janet Renfroe, and Katie Moore-Maloney on Oct. 18; and Hindi Marciniak, Brad Dolan, Whitney Goligowski, and Anita Pepper on Oct. 25.
Throughout October, children who read at Rush Coffee Company can receive a free small chocolate milk, juice, or milk alternative while they read. Rush has also partnered with Spread the Word Nevada to stock its community bookshelf with free books children can read and take home.
