With a goal in the final minute of play, the Fallon boys soccer team beat Fernley 3-2 last Saturday and stayed solidly in the chase for a berth in the 3A Northern Regional Tournament and kept Fernley still searching for its first points in the standings.

Fernley came into the game having scored just one goal this season but got goals from Damian Ruiz and Dominic Medina to take the game down to the wire.
“We had a great game and unfortunately fell short on a last minute goal,” Fernley coach Angel Muniz said.

Early the second half Kyle Shawcroft intercepted a ball from Fernley goalkeeper Alejandro Contreras and scored to put the Greenwave up 2-1.
Fernley tied the game 2-2 on a corner kick with about two minutes left in the game Fernley.
With less than a minute left, Fallon’s Acen Williams stole a ball around midfield and dribbled through the Fernley defense. His shot into the left corner of the net proved to be the the winning goal.
Fallon improved its record to 2-3 in the Northern 3A East, and 4-9-2 overall. Fernley fell to 0-5 in the league and 0-14 overall.
Fallon entered this week in a three way tie for third place in the East division. Playoff seeds are determined by a weighted point scale that takes into account wins in crossover games against the West Division. The top eight seeds in the 3A North qualify for the region tournament, with the top four hosting first-round games.
Fallon had 20 points under that system after beating Fernley, with the possibility of overtaking Lowry for fifth, or of falling behind Incline, North Tahoe or Debbie Smith.
Without a win or a tie, Fernley does not have any points toward the regional tournament.
Fallon is scheduled to host Elko at 3:45 p.m. Friday and West Wendover at 11:45 a.m. Saturday. Fernley hosts West Wendover Friday at 3:45 p.m. and Elko at 9 a.m. Saturday
