Logos Christian Academy celebrated Johnny Appleseed Day on Sept. 24 with an afternoon filled with fun, creativity, and, of course, plenty of apples. Each classroom sponsored a special event for everyone to enjoy. Children made pot hats, voted on their favorite way to eat apples, prepared apple pie in a cup, had fun stamping with apples, and enjoyed caramel apples with a variety of delicious toppings.
The fifth- through eighth-grade classes also took part in an apple baking contest. The rules were simple: Each entry had to contain apples, and it had to be made by the student or students submitting it.
The young bakers came up with an impressive assortment of treats, including pie, cake, turnovers, cheesecake, bars, croissants, and apple crisp. With 10 entries to choose from, the judges had quite a challenge deciding which one deserved the top honors.
The winners were:
First place: Penny Lyle — apple croissants
Second place: Viola Wagner — apple cheesecake
Third place: Emma Slentz — apple bars
The celebration provided an opportunity to step away from the usual school routine and spend time together. It was an afternoon filled with laughter, creativity, friendly competition, and opportunities for students and staff to build camaraderie while enjoying all things apple.
