Lahontan Conservation District Poster Winners

Christy Sullivan, district clerk of the Lahontan Conservation District recently had the opportunity to teach the Numa Elementary 5th grade science class the importance of soil.  She then asked the student to make a poster on what soil meant to them. "The turn out for the contest was amazing," she said and at the Conservation District board meeting last week, where the winners of the contest were recognized.

Sullivan said that the posters were forwarded to the October 22 -24  NvACD (Nevada Association of Conservation Districts) 2019 Annual Meeting in Winnemucca. Three students won 1st, 2nd and 3rd place at the State level and one student poster will be going to NACD (National Association of Conservation District) to be judged on the National level.

Sullivan also reported that it was announced at the State Conference that Lyle de Braga, who served as the chairman for many years on the Stillwater Conservation District board received the Memorial Recognition Award.                                                                                           Support local, independent news – contribute to The Fallon Post, your non-profit (501c3) online news source for all things Fallon. Comment author: Claude EzzellComment text: Paul was one of the most manifest men I have ever met. He was a good friends with my Dad and always had an entertaining story for the occasion. One of my most favorite stories Paul told dated back to the late 60s or early 70s and it revolved around him killing a deer way out in the mountains. Naturally the deer ran down into a deep canyon and died. Knowing that it would take him forever to haul it out he devised an awesome plan. After preparing the deer he drove back to NAS Fallon and rustled up a SAR crew and they flew out and picked up the deer. Of course it was labeled as a training flight but what the hell in those days you could do that sort of thing. Rest in Peace my friend until we meet again!!Comment publication date: 4/11/24, 1:15 PMComment source: Obituary - LCDR Paul N PflimlinComment author: THughesComment text: So sad to hear.
