July 6, 1943 - August 30, 2026
Janice Moore passed away peacefully at home on August 30, 2026, at the age of 83. Janice was the daughter of Robert and Lillian Barkley of Fallon, Nevada. She is preceded in death by her husband, Lonnie D. Moore, older sister Carolyn (Val) York, younger sister Nancy (Bob) Trease, and her oldest daughter Tammy Kay Slaton. Her brother Stanley Barkley still resides in Arizona with his wife Judy.
Janice and Lonnie were married for 53 years. Together they raised their three children, Tammy (Paul) K. Slaton, Darin A. Moore, and Lani R. Moore, all of Fallon. They both shared a love of the outdoors and travel. They traveled to such places as Mexico, Hawaii, Canada, and most of the West Coast, as they were especially fond of the ocean. They toured Israel, Scotland, England, and Wales. Janice would create beautiful journals of each trip to preserve the memories for years to come. In her later years, she enjoyed reading these journals and fondly remembering those excursions.
Hiking, backpacking, cycling, gardening, sketching, and painting were a few of her many interests. She earned her degree in interior design from UNR in her early thirties. This was reflected in the well-designed, beautiful homes she always kept. She said her yard was her “canvas.”
Janice worked as a teller and loan officer for five years at First Federal Savings and Loan. She worked as a typesetter for a printing company before the age of computer design. She also volunteered at the Churchill County Library to teach adult literacy.
Janice loved young children; thus, she poured her heart and soul into raising her own children and taught Sunday school for many years. It was a highlight to her day when she could babysit one of her grandchildren. She even participated in homeschooling a few of them. Janice had six grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
Reading and writing were another passion for Janice. She was up by 3 a.m. every day to spend several hours poring over her Bible and journaling about her many blessings and prayers for her family and friends. She considered Jesus to be the best friend anyone could ever have. One of her final quotes was from 2 Corinthians 5:1-8, vs. 8 “…we prefer rather, to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord.”
Rest in peace, Mom / Grandma.
