With three players returning from the lineup that placed second in the 2A last year, the Oasis Academy girls golf team looks like a strong contender again for the top spot in the West Region and the state.
Behind an individual first place finish by team captain Meirra Cavanaugh, the Bighorns finished second in last week’s meet at the Fallon Golf Course with a team score of 317, their lowest of the season.
Cavanaugh also won the longest drive on holes No. 1 and 10 and closes to the pin on No. 2 and 11, while Lora Siebecker won closest to the pin on holes No. 8 and 17.
“Team captain Meirra Cavanaugh continues to dominate and is the favorite to win the individual 2A West Regional and State championship,” Oasis coach David Halloran said. “Bailey Beebe, Ianna Sorono, Lora Siebecker, and Bailey Peixoto have all improved dramatically and have put this team in a strong position to challenge for the West Region and State Championship."
The Oasis golfers were scheduled to be back on the course Sept. 22 at a meet hosted by Virginia City at the Dayton Valey Golf Club.
