Oasis Academy’s boys cross country team placed fourth last Friday at the Run the Rubies Invitational in Spring Creek, where teams from Nevada and Utah competed on a straight 5K course out of Lamoille Canyon.
In the boys varsity race, which had 62 runners, Leonidas Arcoraci led Oasis in 15th place in 18:05.10. Vincenzo May finished 28th in 20:04.99, followed by Keagan Craig in 29th (20:15.51), Zayden Maynez in 32nd (20:28.88), Jose Montalvo in 39th (20:59.92).
Connor Tolman in 45th (22:15.51), Kamron Bracken in 59th (22:42.39), Elijah Jones in 52nd (22:44.02) and Tristan Bracken was 61st in 40:50.88.
Oasis did not have enough runners for a girls team score. In the girls varsity race, Sonora McInturff finished 43rd in 32:17.44, Faith Torres‑May placed 44th in 33:01.35, and PhoenYx Mathes finished 46th in 35:19.22.
Coach Krista Smith said the downhill course required athletes to dig deep and practice important techniques, and she said everyone ran their fastest races of the season.
“I can’t be more proud of their strength and determination to complete each race and learn something new with each new course,” she said.
This Saturday, Oasis is scheduled to compete in the Truckee Invitational, which has 42 schools registered to compete in 5,000-meter races in both boys and girls varsity and JV divisions at the Ponderosa Golf Course.
