The Churchill County High School volleyball team opened Northern 3A league play with a five‑set comeback win over Dayton last Thursday, defeating the DustDevils 25‑18, 22‑25, 17‑25, 25‑21, 15‑9.
Raegan Johnson led the Greenwave with 41 kills, 13 digs and 4 blocks. Kalaya Downs finished with 48 assists and 17 digs, Layla Walker had 24 digs, Hayden Dooley added 13 digs, and Audrey Fruzza contributed 28 digs in the win.
Coach Tristin Johnson said the team showed resilience after dropping the second and third sets.
“I’m very proud of our mental toughness against Dayton and not backing down when things got tough,” she said. “Dayton plays incredible defense, but we made the adjustments we needed to and improved our ball control when it mattered. It was the best way to start league play.”
The Greenwave was scheduled to host Lowry Wednesday, then next Tuesday they play in Fernley
