“God’s Amazing Design”: Kindergarten Students Explore the Animal Kingdom
Kindergarten students at Veritas Preparatory School recently became researchers, artists, builders, and presenters through a special project titled “God’s Amazing Design.” The project challenged students to take a closer look at the animal kingdom and consider how the unique features of each creature reflect God’s purposeful design.
Students began by researching real animals and learning about their distinctive characteristics. After completing their research, students put their creativity to work. They made sketches of their animals and then created models that incorporated the features they had studied. The hands-on portion of the project gave students an opportunity to transform what they had learned into something they could see, build, and explain.
The project concluded with student presentations before their classmates and parents. Each kindergartner had the opportunity to share information about his or her animal, explain its important features, and describe why those characteristics are useful. For young students, presenting their work also provided valuable practice in organizing their thoughts, speaking clearly, and confidently sharing what they had learned with an audience.
“God’s Amazing Design” is an example of how learning at Veritas can bring together multiple areas of study. Science and observation were combined with research, art, hands-on construction, and public speaking, all within a biblical understanding of creation.
For the kindergarten students, the project offered an important lesson: the world around them is filled with things worth studying carefully. From the smallest creature to the most unusual animal feature, creation provides countless opportunities to wonder, investigate, and learn more about the wisdom and creativity of its Designer.
