Tom Young — Nevada's Giant Ichthyosaur

Category:
Tom Young will share the story of the Nevada expedition that uncovered Cymbospondylus youngorum, the earliest known animal to reach giant size. The marine reptile lived about 246 million years ago and is estimated to have measured more than 55 feet long. Young, a geologist and co-founder of Great Basin Brewing Co., helped support the excavation of the fossil from Nevada's Augusta Mountains. The species was later named in honor of Tom and Bonda Young. The lecture begins at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 22, at the Churchill County Museum in Fallon.
