Performing Arts Organization Holding Auditions

Performing Arts Organization Holding Auditions

The Performing Arts of Churchill County will be presenting “Orphan Train, The Musical,” directed by Tim With, on May 4, 5, and 6, 2023 in the CCHS auditorium. Students currently in grades 3, 4, 5, and 6 are encouraged to try out for parts in the musical. Audition applications are due by 9 a.m. Monday, February 27.

When the orphan train movement began, it was estimated that anywhere from 10,000 to 30,000 outcast children were living on the streets of New York City alone. From 1854 to 1929 an estimated 250,000 orphaned, abandoned, and homeless children were transported throughout the United States and even Canada on these orphan trains to find new homes.

“Orphan Train, The Musical” is a historical fiction telling the story of these children. The musical contains twelve different songs ranging from fun, upbeat dance tunes to slow, melodic, thought-provoking songs that cause the audience to experience the emotion of being an orphan on the orphan train.

Auditions will be on Saturday, March 4 from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Oats Park Gymnasium. In addition, students will need to attend one pre-audition workshop either Wednesday, March 1, or Thursday, March 2 from 4:30-5:30 p.m., also at the Oats Park Gymnasium. The cast list will be posted on Saturday, March 4, by 6 p.m. on the PACC website.

The PACC is a non-profit organization created to serve the Fallon and Churchill County community to build the skills and confidence that participating in performing arts brings to an individual, a group, and a community. Members of the organization strive to educate and provide quality opportunities for community members of all ages to participate in a variety of performance areas, including acting, singing, instrumental music, and dancing. According to the mission statement, “We strive to promote and grow the arts culture in our community and invite all community members to participate as a performer, volunteer, technician, or audience member.”

Currently, Dave Ernst, President of PACC, and Summer Stanton, the Social Media Manager of PACC are participating with Ashley Adams, Secretary of PACC and the Drama teacher at Churchill County High School in the production of “Little Shop of Horrors,” the CCHS production that will be presented to the community March 17 and 18, and March 23 – 25 at 7 p.m.

Also serving on the PACC Board are Jim and Lori Souba, and Noreen Swenson, who has worked on the production teams of many musicals in Fallon dating back to 1997.
