Three more candidates have filed to run for office in the past week, bringing the total to 17 candidates filed with the Churchill County Clerk and two with City Hall for City Council seats.

Paul Harmon filed on March 14 to run for the City Council Ward III seat being vacated by James Richardson, who is termed out.

Also on March 14, Richard Grondin filed to run for a seat on the Churchill County Mosquito, Vector & Weed Abatement Board of Trustees.

Kelly Frost filed March 7 for re-election to her City Council Ward I seat. Due to changes at the legislature, for the first time, the municipal election will be held in November along with an election for every other office. See the story here: https://www.thefallonpost.org/news/4374,municipal-elections-move-to-november.

At the county, several candidates filed for re-election including Denise Mondhink-Felton for Assessor, Linda Rothery for Clerk/Treasurer, Arthur Mallory for District Attorney, Tasha Hessey for Recorder, and Richard Hickox for Sheriff.

Sheriff Hickox is being challenged by Daniel Ray Sharp.

On March 8, Bob Getto filed for reelection as Public Administrator.

Pete Olsen is termed out of his County Commission seat in District III, leaving an empty seat for which Tom Riggins, Myles Getto, and Tanya Freeman have filed.

Matt Hyde filed for reelection to the School Board on March 10, becoming the seventh person to file to run for the four open seats. Amber Getto has also filed for re-election along with newcomers Julie Guerrero-Goetsch, Joe McFadden, Bill Post, Walter Henderson, and Ivy Ward joined the race last week.

School board candidates run at large in a non-partisan race, with the four candidates who receive the most votes winning the four open seats. If more than eight file, they will go to the primary and get narrowed down to eight candidates. If there are only seven candidates, they will go straight to the General Election with no primary.

Churchill County Commissioner Greg Koenig and Lyon County Commissioner Vida Keller have each filed to run for the Assembly District 38 seat that Robin Titus is vacating to run for the State Senate District 17 seat. James Settelmeyer currently holds that seat but is term-limited out.

Titus is being challenged in the Senate District 17 race by Assemblyman Jim Wheeler of Douglas County.

Filing remains open until 5 p.m. March 18.
