TCID to Close Truckee Canal for Two Weeks in September

Rusty Jardine, General Manager of the Truckee-Carson Irrigation District announced this week a Notice of Temporary Closures of the Truckee Canal During 2020 Irrigation Season. By direction of the Board of Directors for the Truckee-Carson Irrigation District, the closure will be effective the 3rd day of September, 2020, through the 19th of September, 2020, when operation of the Truckee Canal in the 2020 irrigation season will be suspended temporarily and the Canal will be closed.

This temporary closure is intended to facilitate the connection of the horizontal fish screen, now under construction at Derby Dam, with the Canal.  This temporary closure includes the time necessary to allow for a safe reduction in flow, and the safe reintroduction of flow – at rates established by rule now governing operation of the Canal.

TCID advises that water right holders should plan for the temporary closure of the Canal this irrigation season when placing water orders and requesting water delivery in the month of  September, 2020.
