Submitted courtesy of LEAD Green -- FALLON, Nevada – Abbey Pike and Keith Mason were selected as the 2018-19 LEAD Green Scholars this year. LEAD Green provides scholarships to graduating students within Churchill County – seniors from CCHS and Oasis Academy – with experience and values of leadership, service and education. “Our community is filled with students who are and will continue to make a difference in the world,” said LEAD Green Board Member and Oasis Academy Counselor Andy Lenon. “Our team strives to be a resource for students, and providing scholarships is one way we do that.” Abbey Pike, a senior at Oasis Academy, currently serves as Project Citizen President and Student Body Secretary. During high school she was also involved with We the People, a program that inspired her interest in government and civic engagement. In the fall, Abbey plans to attend the University of Nevada, Reno. “The possibility of meeting new people, doing research with the university, and participating in an educational community are all aspects of pursuing a degree at UNR that excite me,” said Abbey. Keith Mason, also a senior at Oasis Academy, currently serves as National Honor Society Vice President. Keith said he was timid before participating in student council and serving his peers as Student Body Treasurer. In the fall, Keith plans to attend Southern Utah University to pursue a degree in Business. “Growing up in Fallon has taught me to have pride in myself and my community,” said Keith. “We are a small town, but we are so connected with each other. I am proud to say that Fallon has been a place where I feel supported and I have made many lifelong friendships.” LEAD Green is newly established Nevada 501c(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to cultivating high school students within Churchill County through Leadership, Education, Awareness, and Development (LEAD).
