The Transfer Station, located off Indian Lakes Road at 2900 Enterprise Way was reopened on Monday, May 16.

The new rate for dumping at the Transfer Station is $60/ton for municipal solid waste as well as construction and demolition. The minimum charge per load is $15.

The temporary site on North Maine is closed.

“We are excited to reopen and thank our community for their patience during the closure,” said Brian Byrd, Fallon Public Works Director. He explained the long lead times and material shortages forced the repairs to take much longer than anticipated. During the closure, the city revamped the processes at the transfer station to allow for greater efficiency and shorter wait times.

On Monday, June 14 the Fallon Churchill Fire Department was dispatched to 2900 Enterprise Way, according to Fire Chief Jared Dooley. A report of a large fire at the City of Fallon Transfer Station was called in by neighboring properties.

The Fire Department responded to the above address with 13 pieces of equipment and 30 firefighters. A separate call was issued to NAS Fallon which responded with an Engine and 4 additional firefighters.

Upon arrival, the fire was classified as a contents fire. The “barn” structure at the transfer station contained a large amount of garbage that had become completely involved with fire. The fire department worked for approximately six hours to bring the fire under control and provide as much protection for the structure as possible. The Fire Department worked into the next day to overhaul the contents of the building and completely stabilize the incident.

The facility is open from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
