We are pleased to announce that as of this morning’s press conference with Governor Sisolak, local school districts will now have more local control in areas related to the health and safety protocols related to COVID-19. First, we as the district will be returning to face coverings as optional in most circumstances in all of our school facilities BEGINNING FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 11th for both students and staff.
However, outbreak mandates at CCHS and Lahontan are still in effect at this time which means masking is STILL REQUIRED at these schools for students and staff. Face coverings are also still REQUIRED on ALL SCHOOL TRANSPORTATION. Furthermore, the directive now allows the district to work with the state on setting our own metrics and parameters. We will have specific metrics and protocols in place as a district that will be approved by the end of the month with the Division of Public and Behavioral Health, our local health authority, so please know that is possible we have times where face coverings could be mandated in the future as part of our local plan. In addition to the face-covering mandates being lifted, we too will be discontinuing mandatory testing for students participating in athletics AS OF FEBRUARY 27, 2022.
In addition, we will no longer be required to test students who are leaving the county for activities and events. We will continue to implement our local testing plan as it exists through random testing in all of our schools as well as on-demand testing based on parent request for children or staff requests for themselves for those who are symptomatic.
What we will continue to develop are our district’s guidelines for quarantining and isolation based on COVID positivity and COVID exposures. We will be required to have some protocols in place in order to meet the expectations of the Division of Public and Behavioral Health. Until that time, the current health and safety protocols we have in place are still in effect, including the isolation and quarantine guidelines as well as the use of a face covering if returning to school after a five-day COVID positive test.
