Banner Update - Stay Vigilant Even as COVID Hospitalization Decrease

On Thursday, October 14, 2021, Banner Churchill Community Hospital reported the ICU is currently operating at 75 percent capacity and the Medical Surgical department has decreased to 71 percent capacity over the last several days, indicating that COVID cases are trending downward. Still, of those COVID positive patients who are hospitalized, 95 percent are unvaccinated.

This is not the time to let our guard down. The COVID vaccines work very well to reduce your chance of getting COVID and, even if you do get a breakthrough case, the likelihood you will need to be hospitalized is very small if you’re vaccinated. We are recommending that everyone who is eligible get a COVID-19 vaccine as soon as possible. If you’re vaccinated, you also should look into whether or not you’re eligible for a booster.

More than 50 percent of our unvaccinated COVID-positive patients are between the ages of 20 and 59, so even if you’re young and healthy you should get the vaccine.

Churchill County offers both Covid-19 vaccines and Covid-19 testing at the county fairgrounds. Please visit their website at www.churchillcountynv.gov for more information on dates and times.

With a decline in hospital admissions across Nevada, we now have more flexibility to transfer patients in need of a higher level of care to other locations. We are grateful for these partnerships.

As a safety precaution, we continue to limit visitations to one visitor per patient per day, and we are requiring everyone entering the hospital to be screened and to wear a mask.

As a final reminder, flu season is upon us and predictions indicate a rough season following the virtual nonexistence of flu last year. Get your flu vaccine as soon as possible…it is okay to get the COVID and flu vaccines at the same time. Thank you for helping us keep our community safe and healthy.

I think some people in Fallon are so afraid of what others will think of them if they are seen wearing a mask. Just wear the mask.
