Valarie “Val” Johnson passed away on October 11, 2021, at 68 years old in her home surrounded by her loved ones. She was the wife of Roy Johnson, with whom she shared 40 years of marriage and she was a dedicated mother, grandmother, and friend.
Val was born in Ely, Nevada, to Dean and Dixie Whipple and raised in Lund. She graduated high school in 1971 and later moved to Fallon where she met Roy while she was working at PortOSubs. They got married on March 20, 1981. On her days off, she was a loving companion to Roy as he traveled for work. She eventually became a cashier at the local Wal-Mart, where she happily worked for over 20 years.
Valerie was so dedicated to her work and to her community that she became known in Fallon as “Wal-Mart Val”. Some customers were known to wait in line to check out at her registry just so she could brighten their day with her smile and her soft, friendly personality. Everyone that knew Val would agree that she was a ball of sunshine. She was genuinely selfless, helpful, loving, and caring. She always put everyone else’s needs ahead of hers and she even cared for her children’s friends as if they were her own.
Valarie did much more than lovingly serve Fallon and raise a strong, happy family. She was a valuable and charitable member of her community and played a large role in a successful tractor business that her family still owns and operates to this day. As if that weren’t enough, she always made time in the middle of her busy workday to make delicious homemade meals for the whole family, and then she’d go right back to work.
Valarie is survived by her husband Roy Johnson; brother Keven Whipple and his wife Cindy; sisters Debbie Whipple and Jill Horsley and her husband Roger; children Sterling and his wife Kalli, Stoney and his wife Christy, Sage and his wife Lauri, and Desiree and her husband David. She is also survived by her grandchildren Leigh, Trenton, Kaleb, Shaden, Chase, Buddha, Dodge, Virginia, Lilly, JD, Theo, Annikin, Adrian, Anna, and Ryan; and she was preceded in death by her father Dean Whipple.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 18th, 2021, at 12:30 in the afternoon at The Gardens Funeral Home located at 2949 Austin Highway in Fallon, Nevada, with an interment at Churchill County Cemetery. A potluck gathering will be held at the Gardens Funeral Home following that.
