Captain’s Log – Yard Arm…

I didn’t really know for sure what is a Yardarm, I had to look it up. Generally, I thought it was a part of a sailing ship, so it came up in conversation this week with the Wing Nut as we were leaving my house and I was telling her about my yard work and how badly my arms hurt from over-application of the hula hoe. We laughed and called out, “Captain’s Log…, Yard Arm.”

We think we’re pretty funny sometimes and keep a running list all week for the Captain’s Log, so I have something to write about or the girls do in their Deck Hands column.

Leaving my yard another day, listening to voicemail messages, we got a call from our Vic who wanted us all to come out and watch him fire the cannon. He is the Colonel of the Nevada Light Artillery Division. I hope I got that right; he even has a hat and gives out certificates when you get your turn to go out and fire the cannon.

Talk about fitting for the Captain’s Log – he was hilarious, ranting on and on about how the expected guests had shown up a day early and his wife had gotten him confused and some reference to Hogan’s Goat, and our invitation was canceled.

We were telling Stu all about it and he got so excited. “I need a place to shoot my cannons!” he said, all bouncy with his eyes shining. We’re angling to add him to the next staff invitation.

Speaking of the yard – the girls just noticed we have 4/20 and Earth Day in the same week. We feel like we should buy a new plant for the office or do a clean-up project or something. We did take advantage of the City Clean-up Day, though. We shameless called them to come pick up the old toilet Ginny’s sweet husband replaced for us.

Yep, doing our part to Keep Fallon Green. While we’re at it, we’ll keep on…
